New Displays at the Walker Education Center

Two new displays have been added to the Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center courtesy of members from our Education Department.  Both, Taylon and Nancy, researched their chosen topics and designed the displays.

Yellow Fever & the Death of Margaret Houston
by Taylon Black

This display explores yellow fever, treatment of it in 1839, yellow fever in Texas in 1867, and Margaret Houston’s death from yellow fever in 1867.

19th Century Gardening
by Nancy Gajan

This display looks at gardening in the 19th century and specifically what we know from letters, between Sam and Margaret Houston, of what was growing on the Houston farm.

The Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center is open Tuesday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
